STUDENT ENTERPRISE AWARDS COUNTY FINAL 2011

Carrick on Suir and Clonmel Schools scoop the top awards at the South Tipperary Student Enterprise Awards.

On Friday last over 80 enterprising students from secondary schools throughout South Tipperary attended the Student Enterprise Awards held in Clonmel Park Hotel and organised and hosted by South Tipperary County Enterprise Board.

Since last October enterprising secondary school students have been busy researching their business ideas and producing innovative products and services, ably assisted by Sue Anne O’Donnell, Student Enterprise Co-ordinator, as part of the County Enterprise Board’s initiative to promote enterprise in schools.

The Senior Category was won by Richard Walsh and David Kehoe of CBS Secondary School, Carrick on Suir, with their ‘Plucking Mad’ business that raised turkeys for the Christmas market.

The Intermediate Category was won by Conor Lynch of ‘The Spill Sill’ from CBS High School, Clonmel, with his lip for saucepans to prevent liquid overflowing onto cooker.

The Junior Category winner was Conor Molloy of ‘Recession Recycling’ from CBS High School, Clonmel, with his recycled fire bricks.

Each category winner will represent the county at the national finals in Croke Park on Thursday, 14th April, 2011.

Judging of the Senior Category was conducted by Mr. Anthony Fitzgerald, South Tipperary County Council, and Mr. Robert Jones, VisionID.  Intermediate Category judges were Ms. Patsy Cooney and Ms. Fiona Browne of Tipperary Institute and judging of the Junior Category was carried out by Ms. Rosemary Donovan, The Book Market, and Ms. Susan Schaerer, The Label Factory.

The event was sponsored by local employers in the area, Abbott Vascular and Merck Sharp & Dohme (Irl) Ltd.  Tipperary Institute and FÁS also exhibited to the students on the day.
